Although the Samsung Galaxy Camera isn't just like a smartphone, you can also obtain root permissions because the onboard operating system is Android. In fact, already on XDA some users (including such AdamOutler) have managed to obtain root permissions thanks to CF-Root user found ChainFire, who created a version for the Galaxy Camera.

However, enter the root permissions can potentially cause damage to the device as it could go in brick (i.e. do not turn back on anymore): TechnologyAndroid.com assumes no responsibility for damage to objects or people as a result of using the Guide.

Compatibility: the following guide is only compaibile with Samsung Galaxy Camera; It is highly sonsigliato to try it on any other device other than the latter.

That said, let's get started!
  1. First of all, we need to download the drivers for the camera, which will be installed on your computer. Is it possible to get these drivers installing Samsung Kies at this link: Download KiesAlternatively, you can take the drivers directly from these links: Windows 32 bit (x 86) | Driver Windows 64 bit (x 64);
  2. Download the CF-Root from the following link: Download CF-Root | File name: CF-Auto-Root-gd1-ekgc100.zip
  3. Now extract the file you just downloaded in step 2 on the computer, obtain the necessary files from Flash to have root permissions; the file should be named CF-Auto-Root-gd1-ekgc100.tar.md5 (the important thing is that the file ends with the .tar extension or md5 so as to be compatible with Odin);
  4. Download Odin, the Samsung software that will allow us to Flash the file retrieved previously: Download Odin3 v 3.04;
  5. Now extract the file you just downloaded into the directory that you prefer (the desktop) so you can start;
  6. Turn off the Galaxy camera. Then now, press and hold down the button Volume Down + Camera + Power button together until the screen does not light up in Download mode. If you get a screen Warning!, press the Volume up button to access the Download mode;
  7. Run v3.04.exe Odin3 obtained in step 4;
  8. Connect Samsung Camera to PC; You should now get a message saying "Added!!" on Odin, on a box in the lower left-hand corner.
    If you don't get this message, make sure you have installed the drivers correctly (in paragraph 2), or try to change the USB port that you connected Samsung Galaxy Camera.
  9. Click on PDA in Odin, and go and select the CF-Auto-Root-gd1-ekgc100.tar.md5 file that you extracted in step 3 above;
  10. Don't make no other changes on Odin, make sure the box for "Re-Partition" is not flaggata;
  11. Now, click on the Start button of Odin to start flashing the file CF-Root that you selected on the PDA; wait a moment, and if everything is gone, will get written correctly Pass with green background.
    If you get a message saying Fail and red background, unplug the Galaxy Camera from your PC, remove the battery for 4-5 seconds, insert it again and try again from step 7;
  12. Turn on Samsung Galaxy the camera and you will have root permissions.
